The Scale

So today I went to the OBGYN and heard some news: I gained too much weight in the last six weeks. This may or may not have to do with the fact that I spent two weeks in Santa Cruz celebrating a lot of life, but low and behold, I gained 12 pounds when I was only suppose to gain 6. To make it better, I broke down crying in the doctor's office. Good thing Danny was with me at this appointment or else I don't know what I would have done. The doc isn't worried about it, but he just said I need to keep an eye on it. Unfortunately, gaining weight has been my biggest concern throughout the pregnancy. I watch what I eat and I exercise regularly, with the exception of those two weeks. I try so hard and felt so discouraged at the end of the appointment.

I have decided that I am going to get back on track for the next month. My next appointment is July 8th and I hope I will have the weight issue under control. "Under control:" This is a phrase I love. I am realizing I am a control freak to some degree, and again, I have to surrender my control to the Lord. Let's be real. I am not really in control and neither are you. All the things we think we maneuver are really under the guidance of Jesus. I am trying my best to hand this one over to the Lord, all while loading up on delicious veggies.

The good news is our little girl looks as healthy as can be. I need to focus on that and remember to be grateful for our little angel's health. What a blessing!

  1. I think every appt I had came after a big "eating event"...girl's getaway, Thanksgiving, Christmas, trip to Iowa. It always seemed to balance itself out. One month 8 pounds, next month 1 pound (and that was after Chrustmas...I usually gain 5 pounds when I'm not pregnant!) the important thing is that you are eating and excersizing! Don't worry too much about the weight, it will come off! Ted is seven weeks old and I've already lost 35 pounds...breastfeeding is amazing! You look fabulous too! I love seeing your sweet belly pics!

  2. Thanks, Kellie! It was more of a surprise than anything, although my little bump has definitely made its presence known! That is awesome that you have dropped the weight so quickly...the wonders of breastfeeding! :)

  3. Oh Katie, don't beat yourself up! You're gaining at the rate that your body needs- maybe you gained 12 pounds when you were "supposed to" gain 6, but you'll probably notice that another month you may gain less than you're supposed to. Just know that you are being as healthy as you can for yourself and your baby girl, and don't worry about the weight! It will come off. I can't even believe the amount of weight that continues to fall off of me from breastfeeding.

You look really really really cute and beautiful, and your body is doing just what it needs to!

    1. That's what I have come to realize over the course of the week...all is well as long as the baby is well! :) Thanks, AK!

  4. Katie- love your blog! Just thought I would share with you that I gained over 40 pounds with each pregnancy. ha! Hardly anyone believes me, but it's true! If you are getting exercise in and eating somewhat healthy, I'm sure that you will be totally fine. Congrats and hope that you survive the AZ summer or can at least tolerate it! :)
